FAQ
What is the application process?
The SAGE application process is straightforward and designed to quickly match qualified companions with SAGES. The process is online and includes filling out a simple application so you can tell us more about yourself, services you wish to provide, scheduling preferences, completion of a personal profile, and a background check. A brief interview will be scheduled after.
Do you require a background check?
Yes. SAGE aims to provide safe and reliable services to seniors; therefore, we do require a background check. However it is free of charge to you.
What services would I expect to provide?
In your application process, you can identify the specific non-medical services you wish to provide from overall categories SAGE offers. For example, we offer basic companionship, light housekeeping, basic meal preparation, gentle outdoor activities, and transportation. SAGE does not provide, for example, medical care, bathing/showering support, or medicine administration.
How much flexibility do I have with scheduling?
You have complete flexibility with your schedule. You choose your windows of availability and SAGE does its best to match you with compatible seniors during the times you are available. Keep in mind that you should account for travel time during your windows available for booking services.
How does matching with elders work?
Through our proprietary matching system, we take into account your personal style and preferences, along with your services and availability, to match you with seniors who fit your preferences.
How is my hourly service fee determined?
You set your rates based on your level of service and expertise. We will provide you with general guidance based on market information, but you choose your rates.
What percentage of my service fee will I keep?
At SAGE, we believe that your hard work and dedication to providing compassionate care to elders should be rewarded. Therefore, we have one of the lowest commission rates for using the SAGE platform among other similar service providers. At SAGE, you keep up to 70% of your service fee.
Do you require care companions to have a car?
No. You are free to use whatever mode of transportation you wish. However, if you choose to provide transportation services for elders, you will be required to have your own safe vehicle with all necessary insurance with a minimum liability of 100K, registration and licensing requirements.
How does the ongoing booking process work?
Once you have passed the background check and our brief interview process you will onboard to our platform by creating a profile. Your profile is then made available to SAGES based on their preferences and if there is a match you can confirm the requested booking. The goal is to provide quality care over quantity, we encourage you to build strong relationships with the SAGES so they can continue to book you. We provide the ability to the elders to book you over several days/weeks based on your availability.
What is the age requirement to become a companion?
You must be at least 18 years old to apply and provide companion services through our platform.
Are Companions employees of SAGE Companion?
No. Companions provide services as independent contractors and are not employees of SAGE Companion. SAGE provides a platform to connect to Sages. Companions choose their availability, may accept or decline opportunities, and are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and business expenses.
What insurance is required?
If you drive clients, you must maintain a valid driver’s license and personal auto insurance that meets California legal requirements. As an independent contractor, you are responsible for maintaining appropriate coverage and ensuring your policy covers your activities while providing services through our platform.
